Why Are Today’s Children Toilet Trained Later?
If your two-year-old is still in diapers, and a well-meaning (but annoying) relative tells you that her children were already toilet trained at that age, she may be telling you the truth. There is no question that the age at which children are potty trained has gone up in the United States over the last 50 to 75 years. While there may be cultural and economic forces at work, two major factors have contributed to this shift: the disposable diaper and a better understanding of child readiness.
